A power outage is usually accompanied by phone outages too. If you are able to charge your phone, try to make sure it has some battery life before the lights go out so that if there’s an emergency (and maybe even if there isn’t), you can still use it for communication purposes. Items like portable chargers are a wise investment in situations like this. If you need to conserve battery during a power outage, you can turn your screen brightness down or put your device into airplane mode. You can also close out apps that may be draining your battery without realizing it.
Use Your Generator Safely
If you have a generator, this is the time to use it. If you do not own one or are unable to borrow/rent one in an emergency situation like this, get creative! Maybe some of your neighbors who live nearby will be willing to let you plug into their outlets if they still have power.
